The name
Kala. In Sanskrit, a word that carries more than the ordinary meaning of time. It speaks of the right moment of timing as a form of wisdom. In Hindu and Southeast Asian philosophy, Kala does not simply mark the passing of hours. It recognises that every action has its season, and that knowing when to move is as important as knowing how.
We named our firm Kala because cross-border growth is not only about strategy or networks. It is about reading the moment, understanding when markets are ready, when conditions align, and when the window of opportunity is open.
The work
Founded in 2025, Kala Advisory works on market entry, counterparty risk and media visibility in Southeast Asia. We assess markets and counterparties before a commitment is made, and place announcements with media across the region.
Our clients are:
1. Companies entering Southeast Asia for the first time
Firms that have no office in the region, no local network and no reliable way to read a market from outside it. They are working from what is available in English, which in most of the region only represents a small part of the record.
2. Southeast Asian companies scaling up across the region
Companies established in one market and moving into others, where ownership rules, distribution and regulators work differently. They often arrive with the market decision made and the counterparty question open.
3. Organisations with a Southeast Asian counterparty
Companies, investors, advisory and law firms with a contract, transaction or project involving a party in the region, whether or not they operate there themselves. They commission diligence on a named company or individual, sometimes on behalf of their own client.
We are based in Jakarta and Paris. Our SEA Circle network carries out fieldwork in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and maintains research coverage of Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor-Leste. Our services cover all eleven ASEAN member states.
Southeast Asia Daily
Southeast Asia Daily is a media platform within the same group as Kala Advisory, covering politics, business and society across all eleven markets in the region. It runs its own newsroom and its own commercial terms.
Its published reporting is one of the open sources our research draws on, alongside company registries, regulatory filings and official statistics. Commissioning us buys no coverage in it. For companies with something to announce, partnership is handled by the platform directly and priced on its own rate card.

Kala Advisory operates from two locations at the intersection of the regions we primarily serve:
1. Jakarta, Indonesia
Our Southeast Asian base. Jakarta sits at the heart of ASEAN’s largest economy and gives us direct access to the region’s business and policy networks.
2. Paris, France
Our European base. Paris gives us proximity to European institutions, investors, and businesses looking toward Southeast Asia.

Beyond Southeast Asia, fellows have expertise in Northeast Asia and several have professional backgrounds in France, Italy and Japan. We can, therefore, also assess counterparties on the European side of a deal as well as the Southeast Asian side and even beyond.
